January 2019

During the Christmas break we were very pleased to learn that we had successfully achieved the go ahead to become reaccredited for the International Award. Locking School and Mahanaga Maha College Sri Lanka, work well together supporting education across the two countries. This year we will be focussing on acts of kindness, recyclable art, maths drama, global goals, modern foreign language and a celebration of the link. The link has been maintained for 12 years, with ministers of education taking a keen interest in our achievements.

We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Mr Pike at the end of this term as he moves on to a new challenge.

Mr Pike has been an inspirational Learning Support Assistant, helping out at the many sports tournaments Locking School takes part in. We wish him all the very best in his new venture.

It is with some trepidation that I write to inform you of my decision to retire at the end of this academic year. I have worked in Education for 34 years, the best job in the world, and know that I will really miss it. I am looking forward to spending more time in a classroom, with children, rather than in an office. The children have all been told today. The role of Head Teacher has been advertised nationally. I will of course let you know once an appointment has been made.

As of Tuesday 22nd January footpath works on the A371 will commence on the other side of the road, linking with the existing car park. There will be no difference for traffic, only pedestrians who will now cross using one of the three sets of push button pedestrian lights or the bridge.

As of Monday 28th January the 6000+ trucks will start arriving, over a three month period, delivering the materials required for the new road. Be aware of the increase in large vehicles over this two year period whilst the new road is being constructed.

We are also advised that the bridge crossing the A371 will most likely remain until the Summer holidays. Please use this whenever possible to ensure a safe crossing of the very busy road.

There will also be changes to Anson Road with traffic lights put in place whilst the road is strengthened. There will be an increase in traffic at this time.

Any updates received from Balfour Beatty will be added to our website for your information.
