Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN) created a PESSPA (PE, School Sport and Physical Activity) Development Hub here at Locking Primary School in North Somerset for primary school PE teachers and leads. Locking school provides the PE Hub with designated space for training and meetings and large outside space which includes large grass areas, playgrounds and a multi-use games area. We're really proud to be able to provide this hub for other schools at our school.
PESSPA has a high status in all trust schools. A quality curriculum plan is in place with a bespoke curriculum map and progression of skills across our school as its is all ELAN schools. PE leaders have an increased understanding of PE Sports Premium, including effective allocation, monitoring and reporting
ELAN PE Specialist, Mr Molland, teaches PE to all children at Locking and uses the school as a hub for training. After three years working with teachers in ELAN schools, it was decided that PE training for staff would be for a more targeted audience, so teachers across the trust can come to Locking and see lessons with the children and also learn about the PE curriculum in our dedicated training room.
Topics that the children will learn throughout the year with Mr Molland include personal best, attacking and defending, gymnastics, healthy lifestyles, mastering basics movements, character building through fairness and respect, working with and against others and evaluating and recognising success and improvements.
