Preparation for phased school return from 1st June at the earliest
I am writing to parents in the EYFS, Year 1 and Year 6 to advise you upon the initial staffing changes I am preparing for our potential return to school from 1st June, should the Government confirm it is safe to do so.
As you will be aware, across the whole of our community, a number of people with specific medical conditions have had to shield and be isolated since 23rd March.
Our staff team here at Locking has been affected by this, as has everyone.
I need to advise parents that on medical advice, Mrs Karen Jenkins, one of our Foundation teachers in Lions Class and Miss Terri Tripp one our Year 1 teachers are both being shielded and are unable physically to be here in school. Due to the timings of the Covid 19 Lockdown, we were unable to inform you that Mrs Logan has now left the school and has taken up a new career opportunity in Somerset.
This means that I will have to redeploy different staff, to enable a potential return to school, for our children.
Mrs Child will be moving from Year 6 to support Mrs Stone with Year 1. Mrs Gillman, our Deputy Headteacher will be moving to support Mrs Robertson and Miss Elsom for Year 6.
In order for the continuity of Home Learning for Year Groups that are not part of the initial phased return and the school remaining open for the children of Keyworkers and Vulnerable Groups, I am unable to redeploy other teachers from Years 2/3/4 and 5. Mrs Gillman has 15 years of Year 6 experience and a wealth of transition knowledge that we need to capitalise on for Year 6.
Mrs Child has 10 years of Year 1 experience and expertise for working with young children. We particularly are in need of her exceptional knowledge of phonics and early reading for the return of our children and the wide variations there will be for catch up and recovery.
I felt it was important that these key staffing moves needed to be communicated with you all prior to our specific safety and organisation plans we will be able to communicate with you over the next week or so.
Critical to our plans will be the completion of our parent survey. It is so important for us to know the potential numbers of children we will need to plan for the return of. (This has been emailed to all families and is additionally available on our Locking Primary Facebook page.- Please complete by Wednesday 20th May.)
Once we have this information, I will be able to allocate staff to groups of children and prepare classrooms for the proposed return.
Many thanks for your patience and support.
