World Book Day and World Wildlife Day
3rd March 2017
March has been so busy!
Locking Primary School prides itself on getting involved with different awareness days! Here is how we go involved in World Book Day and World Wildlife Day!
World Book Day is a fantastic day of the year. It is a chance to stop and think about our favourite authors. We get to share our thoughts about different books and realize all the other amazing books that are out there through recommendations that we haven't even tried yet.
This year children were invited to dress up as a book character. There was also an opportunity to create a character out of fruit and vegetables and we had some fantastic entries. The top 6 fruit and vegetables along with the top fancy dresses were awarded a £5 gift token to spend in our book fair that was on all week.
The school would like the thank parents for purchasing books from our book fair as it is an opportunity for the school to receive some money back to put towards our own libraries. A win win.
World Wildlife Day is close to our hearts as we are a Forest School. We have such beautiful grounds it is important to embrace the wildlife we have around us.
During this afternoon, all of the classes around the school teamed up with their class link. The children were able to talk about the different kinds of wildlife and how they can help protect and look after them.
The children got to work creating some fantastic pieces of art which can be seen in the Key Stage 1 hall. Together as a whole school we have created a wildlife scene full of large animals, birds, owls, bugs and insects and beautiful flowers. Please make sure you have a look.
Although this was a once a year day we continue to think about the environment we live in and the animals and plants that are around us.
